Every few weeks, I get a call from someone who tells me they want to book an appointment for "just a haircut" and provides an address of where their current stylist does business. The very next question I always ask is, "How do you feel about your hair?"
There's usually an uncomfortable pause on the other end of the line before they say, "No offense, but I hate it."
As a Hairstylist at Thairapy Salon El Paseo for over 20 years, I've learned that most people don't realize what an impact their hairstyle has on how they look and feel about themselves. In fact, the majority of my clients usually come to me because they weren't happy with something about their hair.
The problem is, most people don't know how to communicate what they want and lack the ability to express what they're looking for. They just say, "I want a haircut," without providing enough information for me to help them find a solution that will work for them. Hairstyles have evolved over the years and Hairstylists have learned how to adapt new techniques for a wide variety of hair types, but the bottom line is that some people just don't know what they're looking for.

The reason I spent so many years in beauty education is because being a Hairstylist is not just about cutting hair. Hairstylists are trained to create hair designs that work with the texture and density of your individual hair. There is no "one haircut fits all." Hairstylists use conditioners, styling products, color treatments and various cutting techniques that are specific for different types of hair in order to enhance your natural beauty.
Bottom line - if you want to feel more confident, you need to see a Hairstylist.
I understand it can be stressful trying to find the right Hairstylist for you. Hairstyles change over time and trends are constantly changing, so it's important that both Hairstylists and their clients are on the same page regarding what looks good and what's in style. The right Hairstylist will listen to your needs and help you create the look you're trying to achieve.
